Llama wool is our foundation and inspiration. It was the first fiber that captured our hearts at aiayu, marking the beginning of our dedication to high-quality, responsible materials. Sourced from llamas that roam freely in the Bolivian highlands, these animals thrive in the Altiplano at altitudes exceeding 4000 meters. Native to the Andes, llamas are perfectly adapted to harsh climates, producing a double-layered coat with superior insulation. 

Although not as renowned as other natural fibers, it is treasured for its exceptional durability, warmth, and hypoallergenic properties, thanks to its naturally low lanolin content. The fiber's long length enhances its strength and reduces pilling, making it an ideal choice for lasting garments. Available in 13 natural colors, ranging from pure white to deep black, llama wool requires minimal processing and dyeing, underscoring its environmental responsibility.

Moreover, by supporting llama farming in rural Bolivian communities, we contribute to economic stability through ethical trade and responsible sourcing.

Yak wool blends robust durability with luxurious softness. Sourced from yaks residing in the harsh conditions of the Himalayas, this wool provides exceptional warmth and resilience. While its fibers are slightly coarser than cashmere, they offer a distinctive texture that adds character and longevity to our pieces. Comparable in insulation to merino wool, yak wool also has a higher protein content, enhancing its elasticity and reducing the likelihood of shrinkage when washed.

Following our passion for natural fibers, we introduced cashmere into our collection. Sourced from the undercoat of cashmere goats in Inner Mongolia, cashmere is celebrated for its unparalleled softness and lightweight warmth. Each goat yields a limited amount of fine fibers only hand-combed annually, making cashmere a rare and valuable material.

Our wool, sourced from various sheep breeds including the rare nomadic Satuul breed from the Himalayas through a regenerative farming cooperative, offers a rich spectrum of textures and insulation properties. Merino wool is especially known for its fine, soft fibers and exceptional breathability, while Satuul and Highland wools deliver unique crimped textures and superior elasticity, ensuring that garments maintain their shape over time.

At aiayu, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton, cultivated in India without the use of harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. This cotton stands out for its softness, breathability, and versatility, making it ideal for a wide range of products. Committed to environmental and social responsibility, our cotton is grown using regenerative farming practices that conserve water and maintain soil health by avoiding synthetic chemicals and promoting crop rotation. This approach helps reduce soil erosion and fosters biodiversity, reflecting our dedication to responsible and ethical production.

Derived from the flax plant, linen is one of the oldest and most enduring textiles known to humanity. We source our linen from the flax fields of Europe, particularly in France and Belgium, where the climate and soil conditions are ideal for growing high- quality flax. Celebrated for its strength, durability, and minimal environmental impact, flax plants require minimal water and thrive on poor soil, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Linen's inherent structure allows air to flow freely through the fabric, making it incredibly breathable and ideal for hot weather. Its natural moisture- wicking properties help keep you cool and dry by quickly absorbing and releasing perspiration. Additionally, linen's fibers are longer and stronger than those of cotton, making it exceptionally durable and softer with each wash.
