The mittens are worked from the bottom up. Stitches are cast on along the lower edge of the mitten, and a double-rib cuff is worked. The cuff is then folded down over the wrist section of the mitten. After the cuff, the body and thumb gusset are worked in half-brioche stitch. The thumb increases form a gusset that leans either to the right or the left, depending on whether you are knitting the right or left mitten.
